METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and stringy mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum. Next we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the whole piece should peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we won’t use very high pressure because that might damage the surface of the concrete!

Our crew never uses any more pressure than needed to safely clean concrete. These surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our chewing gum removal professional.
